Afternoon Tea in the Gilmore
Millbrook Afternoon Tea
The famous tradition of afternoon tea began in the early 19th century, introduced by Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedfordshire. In Anna's household evening tea was served fashionably late at 8 o'clock. Therefore, leaving a long stretch from lunch where the Duchess would grow hungry and crave a cup of tea and something to nibble on. This then developed into a social gathering between friends and quickly spread into all fashionable societies becoming the quintessential tea tradition we know today.
